We became good friends quickly – she’s a wonderful and inspirational person! – and when I had the opportunity to hire her as my wedding coordinator years later, there was no doubt in my mind that she was my top choice and would ensure my day was flawless.
As my wedding coordinator, she came with me to scout sites, envision how a ceremony and reception could take place at each one, and and immediately helped me plan out my wedding to-do’s on a timeline that would make sure everything got done well before the big day. She sent me an overarching spreadsheet right away with everything carefully placed.
She managed our rehearsal beautifully. I was incredibly impressed with her people skills. My family is split and even I didn’t feel comfortable trying to manage the two sides together and make everyone feel comfortable. Leave it to Bernadette! She handled my awkward, split family charmingly and had everyone relaxed, comfortable, and kept us flowing. We ran through the rehearsal until we felt more than sure of each step, from each person walking and taking positions, timing, live music, and audience direction.
The day of, I was sooo glad to have Bernadette there with me. I knew I could trust her 100% to have everything taken care of and running smoothly before I got there, and of course it was. She handled a huge mix of family volunteers and vendors in a public setting and had it all GORGEOUS and beyond my best vision of it ever being. She was the last person to leave my side before I began my walk down the aisle and she kept me calm to the last.
Finally, of course we had unexpected problems during the day – needing to find key people for the photos, coordinate food and guests, and our chief problem: the entire playlist for the dances and reception becoming unavailable when my phone unexpectedly and completely DIED the second I handed it off. Bernadette managed to download our selected dance songs despite a complete lack of reception (no one else’s phones were working) and vamped a live playlist for the rest of the reception and events that flowed perfectly without any of our input. December 2015, I attended a colleague’s retirement luncheon and retirement ceremony at Dirty Water. This is where I met Bernadette. She was “in-charge” of the event and took charge to ensure every detail was attended to. There is no task too small for her to handle.
I had the distinct pleasure to work with Bernadette on the planning of a cocktail party to celebrate my retirement from Federal service. Provided her with what I was thinking about.
