When you’re at that stage of life where you’re helping care for aging family members but also have nieces and nephews growing up fast, you realize how important it is to be present for both generations. Can I get a “Yip, yip, yip, yip, yip, yip”?

Repurposing my costume from Dirty Bird of Paradise‘s one-year anniversary party (blog post to come!) that had a Shrek theme, on Halloween I took Donkey back to business supported with a “Whiskey’s for Closers” tank and Banana Republic blazer. The Michael Kors heels was just for the photo. There was no way I was going to do 16,000 steps that day in those babies. I eventually borrowed my niece’s size 8 sneakers.
After a week full of Halloween events, I wrapped it up by watching my niece and her friends embrace the spooky spirit in their costumes. She’s growing up so quickly—soon she’ll be off driving, too cool to be hanging out with her Auntie, and talking about crushes.
We spent 2.5 hours walking around Pacifica on a very pleasant evening. It is a coastal city and it can be very cold. I was surprised it wasn’t windy and welcomed the great weather.
The neighborhood was busy and the houses were large with amazing decorations. I wonder what their electricity bill is like. There were houses offering tricks and giving away sardine cans, one was giving out adult beverages and some had the World Series game playing on a projector. One house had a photo studio set up and we got this great photo of the girls. We had to jump in and get one too! Unfortunately the lady didn’t do portraits and only did commercial work. What a great idea to showcase your services! I sent it off to friends, Infinite Imprint Photography and Russell Foote Photography. I nicknamed one house as the Beetlejuice house.

Even though I have had to miss trick or treating outings with her and her brother in the past, I’m grateful I didn’t miss this one. It appears the last time I did this was in 2019! She will always be my Princess Arya.

I hope everyone had a wonderful Halloween—and don’t forget to floss! See my TikTok (bappletree) to see what I mean! Keep posting your Halloween events and costumes!
